Not all aluminum is created equal — and when you're trusting a tie-down system to secure something you care about, the material matters.

At No Worries MFG, we choose premium 6061-T6 aluminum for our L-Track because we aren't interested in simply making the least expensive track we can. We want material that gives us the combination of performance, corrosion resistance, machinability and durability we expect from the products we put our name on.

You may see other L-Track manufactured from alloys such as 6005. So what's the difference, and why did we choose 6061-T6?

What Is 6061-T6 Aluminum?

6061 is a widely used aluminum alloy valued for its useful combination of mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and machinability.

The “T6” matters, too. T6 refers to the temper of the aluminum: the material has been solution heat-treated and artificially aged to achieve specified mechanical properties.

In plain English? We aren't just choosing “aluminum.” We're specifying the alloy and temper we want for the product we're making.

What Is 6005 Aluminum?

6005 is another member of the 6000-series aluminum family and is commonly used for structural extrusions. It can be a very capable material when specified in the appropriate temper and used for the right application.

That's important because we don't believe in calling another aluminum alloy “bad” simply because it isn't the material we choose.

Material performance depends on more than the alloy number alone. Temper, extrusion geometry, dimensions, manufacturing process and the design of the finished component all play a role.

6061-T6 vs. 6005: What's the Difference?

Note: Mechanical properties vary by temper, product form, dimensions and applicable specifications. Alloy designation alone should not be used to determine the strength or suitability of a finished tie-down system.
